As mentioned earlier, people in the local community have banded together to offer supportive care for Fluffy. Fluffy has brought many, who would otherwise not have any reason to interact with each other, together to witness his unfolding story and to reach out to the larger community.

For those who know Fluffy and the type of care he requires, they know there is a cost of time and commitment. Fluffy's care is expensive. The majority of this cost is to pay for the cryoprecipitate used during his transfusions. Transfusion sets, syringes, catheters, etc. are all part of the ongoing cost and constant medical care he requires.

Blood Donor Dogs Needed

In an effort to find alternative ways to reduce this monthly expense, we have established a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization that not only helps Fluffy, but other animals in need of blood components.

How you can help ...

If you live in the South Florida area and would like to volunteer your dog to be used as a blood donor for Fluffy or any other dog that may need blood, plasma, or cryoprecipitate, please ensure your dog meets the following criteria:

Your dog ...

At least one year of age (dogs over 8 years of age require approval of their veterinarian)

Healthy and even-tempered, well-behaved, and good with veterinary exams

Weighs 50 pounds or more

Must have current vaccinations

Must not have any communicable blood-borne diseases

Fluffy has made a full recovery since his serious illness which almost took his life. Although there are no immediate threats to his health today, he remains in guarded condition. Fluffy can still begin to bleed spontaneously for no apparent reason.

It is our commitment to keep an adequate supply of cryoprecipitate on hand and to immediately transfuse anytime him should the need arise.

We hope that another episode of illness is never experienced again. You can help us prepare for that day, should we ever be unfortunate to see it come again.
